Storm & Hail Damage Roof Inspection
After a hail or wind event, the question is not whether the roof looks bad from the driveway. It is whether the shingle mat has been fractured and whether the damage is documented well enough for an adjuster to act on.
- Free project/estimate storm inspection
- Photo documentation you keep
- We meet the adjuster on site
- No pressure, no door-knocking tactics
What hail damage looks like
On asphalt shingles, a hail strike knocks granules loose and bruises the mat underneath. Press on it and it feels soft, like a dent in a hollow surface. That bruise is what shortens the roof's life, because the exposed mat degrades under UV. Fresh strikes are usually random in pattern across a slope, with matching marks on soft metals like gutters, downspouts, vent caps and flashing. Those metals are often the clearest evidence of a hail event.
Wind damage shows up differently: lifted or creased shingles with broken seal strips, missing tabs, displaced ridge cap, and torn drip edge or fascia.
What to do after a storm
- Look for signs from the ground first. Granule piles at downspouts, dented gutters and debris in the yard are all indicators.
- Photograph anything you can see safely, including damage to fences, screens, siding and outdoor units.
- For a prospective repair or replacement, ask for a free ARCC project inspection. If you need a separately scoped technical opinion or report, ask about a paid professional inspection.
- Note the date of the storm. Carriers care about it.
- Do not let anyone pressure you into signing a contingency agreement at the door.
Our project/estimate inspection
We walk the roof, mark test squares, photograph strikes on each slope, document collateral damage to soft metals, and note the condition of flashing, boots and gutters. You get the documentation whether you file or not. If there is no storm damage, we will tell you that too, which is the part storm-chasing outfits skip.
If you decide to file, see how the insurance restoration process usually works and our article on what to do after a hailstorm. If the question is a disputed technical cause or scope rather than a bid for work, consider a separate paid insurance claim roof inspection or forensic report.
Common questions
- How long after a storm can I file a claim?
- Policies vary and carriers set their own deadlines, so check your policy and call your agent. Sooner is better because damage gets harder to attribute to a specific event over time.
- Will filing a claim raise my rates?
- That is a question for your agent, not a roofer. We will not tell you a claim is free of consequences.
- Do you do free inspections after a storm?
- Yes, for prospective ARCC repair or replacement work. A separately commissioned professional NRCIA inspection and report is a paid service with its own scope and fee.
What customers say
Feedback from ARCC customers
They were straightforward about what our roof actually needed and did not try to sell us anything extra. The crew showed up when they said they would and cleaned up the yard before they left.
Great communication from the first walk-through to the final inspection. Everything was explained in plain language.
Honest people doing honest work. They handled the paperwork side of the claim without making it our problem.
